Marhaba! I'm Farah, I am a proud mother to 3 boys living in Canada.
I come from a family whose life revolves around books. My father and his brothers established a publishing house called Arab Scientific Publishers, a printing house, and a translation Center in the Middle East over 45 years ago.
I worked at Arab Scientific publishers for years. I used to work in sales and marketing, which allowed me to travel to exhibitions around the world before deciding to move to Canada permanently. Being around books most of my life, I decided to bring a container full of Arabic books and resources with me to Canada. Luckily, I discovered that the market here is in dire need of it. Hence "Yesmeen" was born! I grew up to the smell of the Yesmeen flower in my mother’s garden. Yesmeen, the Arabic name for the Jasmin flower, reminds me of my region, the Middle East, and evokes in me a sense of nostalgia. When I immigrated to Canada with my kids, I wanted to keep them connected with their region, their heritage, their culture and their language so I started reading to them educational books in Arabic and providing them with fun toys in Arabic. And they love it!
That’s when the idea for Yesmeen came along; a platform for children from the region and beyond, to learn Arabic while having fun. With a background in publishing through Arab Scientific Publishers, our family business established in the Middle East over 45 years ago, we applied our industry knowledge to develop a learning platform for parents and children keen on mastering their mother tongue and building a bridge back home.
